fenblog

how is bearblog so fast?

this website has incredibly fast load times, so much so that i felt compelled to enquire. words from the man himself:

The answer is that I've spent a lot of time optimising exactly page speed. The biggest factors are small page sizes, and edge locations. Essentially, when you request a page from a Bear blog, it usually serves it from a server nearby to you, instead of the main Bear server which is half a world a way. Light can only travel so fast.

There's other stuff like gzip compression and optimising querysets, but the two main drivers of page speed are the ones above.

the power of simplicity: small pages and edge hosting. i'm sure there's a lesson to be learned but i'm not smart enough to find it.

as an aside: i like the platform even more now, given that herman replied to my query when he really didn't need to. legend.
