the struggle
i've been struggling for a while to make things.
at work, i'm a founder and the sole "technical" person. i don't really have much opportunity to build software in the workplace anymore, it's mostly figuring out why the software that we pay for doesn't work.
over the years i've started and abandoned many, many projects, something that i'm sure is relatable to most software engineers. over the past fews years, this has (non-exhaustively) included games (Godot, PICO-8, love2d, OCaml, hand-rolled typescript, you name it), compilers, programming languages, web frameworks, game engines, "side business" project ideas. the last thing i truly completed was a solo album 2 years ago.
i struggle to come up with ideas for tools to build for myself as most things i want to automate with computers can be done with open-source software, and most projects that interest me are far too substantive for a solo developer to take on.
i have no interest in using LLMs to build things for me in this scenario. i enjoy making things for the sake of making things but can't seem to either:
- complete projects, or
- ideate them in the first place.
i'm open to advice or insight, if anyone has any.
